The Charm of Round Timber Tables

Round tables have a way of inviting conversation, offering a more intimate setting where everyone can see each other and engage freely.

This is the reason they're so popular in dining areas and meeting rooms all across the world, and why a custom round timber table would be a great addition to your space.

Customisation at Its Best

Our custom round timber tables are crafted to meet your specific needs and preferences. For instance, take a look at our Crossed Leg Round Table. This custom round timber table is one of our most popular furniture pieces, and is available in Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Tassie Blackwood, Victorian Ash or American Oak timber. You can also choose from timber legs or powder coated aluminium. There are a whole range of different customisation options to choose from.

Each custom timber table at Things of Metal and Wood is made to order, allowing you to specify the size, type of timber, and finishes that best fit your décor and lifestyle.

What Makes Timber Great For Custom Tables?

The natural grain patterns and colours in timber can vary widely, giving each piece of furniture a unique character. Timber is also incredibly durable, ensuring that your table will last for years to come.

Round Timber Coffee Tables

In addition to our larger dining tables, round timber coffee tables are becoming a must-have in many homes. These smaller tables serve as a functional focal point in living rooms, offering a convenient place for books, drinks, or other decorating items like photo albums.

Interview with Jodie from Saltwater Home Styling about Tables

Do you buy the chairs first or the table?

I start with the table first.

Is there a standard size dining table in Australia?

The most common size dining tables would be 1.8m to 2.2m dining tables in a rectangle shape.

And

1.2m and 1.5m diameter for a round table.

For a family of 4 what size would you recommend?

I generally choose a table size based on the space it is going into. So a large dining room calls for a large dining table. Getting the scale right for the space is important. You don't want a small dining table in a large space  as it will look awkward.

Every family is different but a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) allowing for guests, partners, grandparents that may visit I would recommend a 6 to 8 seat table 1.8m to 2.2m (rectangle) or 1.5 to 1.8m (round).

What are the recommended clearances around a dining table to ensure comfortable seating and movement? (This is in regards to each other at the table - not sure how to phrase that better)

200mm to 300mm would be ideal. But I don't think this is always possible to achieve.

How much room should you leave around your table? EG Are there any specific guidelines for the distance between a dining table and the walls or other furniture?

Depending on the size of the dining chair.

You need to be able to pull the chair right out to be seated plus at least a minimum of another 300mm

I would say at least 1m

What mistakes do you see people make when buying dining tables?

Too large or too small.

Also the quality of the product. I would recommend solid timber tables and not a timber veneer.

What’s the average or most common size table most people have?

1.8 to 2.2m Rectangle or

1.2 to 1.5m round

Do you see more round tables or rectangle tables ?

There is a pretty good mix these days of both. But probably more rectangle.

What’s your favourite type of dining table - round or rectangle?

Round. And timber.

And any tips or advice for people researching tables?

Get your size right for your space.

Choose a quality table as it's something that is used so much in homes.
